Twenty years ago, in Berlin, we set a table.

Voices from forty-eight countries answered the questions the world said mattered most. We called it the Table of Free Voices — a model of what democracy can be when people, not rulers, decide what matters and answer it together. Maybe you were there. Maybe a question you carry was one we asked. On September 9, 2026, the table opens again.

Seventy-five voices. One table.

A living archive of 75 thinkers, 99 questions and 6,808 verbatim answers — gathered in Berlin, sealed for twenty years, reopening to the world. The doors aren’t open yet. But the light is on. Look inside.

The longer story

Everywhere, across every border, people have declared visions they could not yet live up to. Freedom and justice for all — and the flaw baked in from the start, because the people most affected were never at the table.

Everything since has been the struggle to close that gap. To make the practice live up to the promise. That struggle belongs to all of us. We are starting where we stand, in this moment, because moments like this one are a lens — they let us see where we’ve been clearly enough to name where we need to go.

The story doesn’t begin with the Table of Free Voices. It begins wherever people first reached toward each other and dared to imagine a future worth building together.

This is a living archive — not a record sealed under glass, but a civic moment kept breathing, opened back up as an invitation. What was gathered in Berlin becomes the ground for what we gather now.

Not for the few. For the people.

To bring our questions. To share the lived experience that makes those questions matter. To listen across our differences and discover what we hold in common — and to dream together, and build what we dream.
